Neurodiverse Accessibility
We understand that attending medical appointments can pose some extra challenges for those with autism, ADHD and other neurodiverse needs. Our aim is to make you as comfortable as possible both before, and during your appointment to give you the calmest experience possible.
There are a range of ways we can support you for your visit:
Let us know ways we can help you before you arrive
We know everyone's needs will vary so if there are particular things we can do to help, please tell us before you visit so we can ensure we do everything possible for your visit to go smoothly. You can call us on 01786 358252 or email reception@stirlingpodiatry.com.
Quiet appointments
We have three treatment rooms and our reception area seats four people. We do have times of day which are quieter than others. Our reception team will be happy to advise on quieter times, arrange for the reception music to be turned off for your visit and the podiatrist can keep chat to the essential questions only if you wish. Ear defenders are always welcome if this makes your visit easier.
Bring distractions
We have a range of fidgets for patients to use but feel free to bring your own. Music, tablets or devices are welcome to be used during your treatment too. We can't guarantee the podiatrist won't start to dance along though!
Written instructions
If you would like us to provide written instructions for after your treatment please do say. Alternatively ask your podiatrist if it's ok to record them giving the instructions or demonstration of what to do for your aftercare to help you remember.
Aftercare
We know following exercise routines or care plans can be tricky sometimes, if you struggle with this please do let your podiatrist know and we can work together to find a solution that works for you.
Reminders
If you have provided us with an email address and mobile phone number, as standard we will send you a text reminder the morning before your appointment. Email reminders are sent one week before and one day before your appointment too. Need extra reminders? Just let us know and we can give you some extras.
Social stories
We have prepared social stories featuring all of our podiatrists. Please click on your chosen podiatrist below to download the story as a PDF.
Where a financial guardian or welfare guardian is in place
If there is an active power of attorney in place for someone over the age of 16, please visit our resource page for carer supported visits to learn more about how treatments can take place.
